Sobremesa Tapa Negra Toro

The Sobremesa Tapa Negra Toro is a distinctive 2026 release from Steve Saka and Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust. Measuring 6 x 52 and handcrafted at Fábrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua, Tapa Negra builds on the celebrated Sobremesa Brûlée blend with an unusual dual-wrapper construction designed to change the cigar's character during the smoking experience.

Most of the cigar is covered with a silky Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade G2BW wrapper, while the head and approximately the upper inch receive an additional Nicaraguan Sun Grown Cuban-seed wrapper. Beneath the wrappers is a Mexican Matacapan Negro de Temporal binder surrounding a complex combination of four Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.

Flavor Profile

The Sobremesa Tapa Negra Toro begins with the creamy character associated with Sobremesa Brûlée, offering impressions of sweet cedar, toasted bread, roasted nuts, light caramel and baking spice. The Mexican binder and Nicaraguan fillers provide enough earth, pepper and tobacco richness to keep the sweeter Connecticut Shade profile balanced.

The experience becomes particularly interesting as the burn approaches the darker Nicaraguan wrapper section. The profile becomes richer and more assertive, with black pepper, espresso, seasoned wood, earth and warm spice gaining prominence.

Based on Sobremesa Brûlée

Rather than creating an entirely new interior blend, Steve Saka used the established Sobremesa Brûlée liga as the foundation for Tapa Negra. The key change is the addition of the Nicaraguan Sun Grown Cuban-seed tobacco at the head of the cigar.

The concept allows smokers familiar with Brûlée to experience its creamy Connecticut profile through a different format, with the darker Nicaraguan tobacco introducing additional richness and intensity.

13-Cigar Box

The Sobremesa Tapa Negra Toro is packaged in boxes of 13 cigars. Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust introduced Tapa Negra as a regular-production line, with commercial shipments beginning in June 2026.

Ratings & Reviews

Because the Sobremesa Tapa Negra Toro is a new 2026 release, no verified numerical rating from Cigar Aficionado, Cigar Coop or Cigar Snob was found specifically for the 6 x 52 Toro at the time of this listing. Ratings for the Corona Gorda have not been transferred to the Toro.

Cigar Coop covered Tapa Negra at PCA 2026 and confirmed the 6 x 52 Toro size, 13-count box, Mexican binder, Nicaraguan fillers and June 2026 release.
